Trigger Point therapy

Trigger points, also known as myofascial trigger points, are areas of hyperirritability within taut band of skeletal muscles and / or its associated fascias. These spots are painful on compression and can evoke characteristic referred pain and autonomic phenomena. Trigger points are manifested as small contraction knots in the muscles, that control the state of contraction and active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain.

A great deal of muscle tension, pain and discomfort in the body can be traced back to specific points of spasm in the muscle. Trigger Point Therapy is a deep tissue body work technique that releases the spasms, liberating the muscle fibres and re-establishing circulation. A firm digital pressure is applied by the practitioner, who is able to locate the specific points causing pain and restricted movement and these may often be located in places different to where the client actually feels the pain.

Trigger Point Therapy is sometimes incorporated with Remedial and Sports Massage and the client is usually unclothed for the treatment, which may not include the use of oil. Conditions that will benefit from this modality include: headaches, neck and jaw pain , dizziness, nausea, upper and lower back pain, tennis elbow, stress and chronic fatigue etc
